Amara Yoga & Arts is committed to Karma Yoga, which comes from the Sanskrit Kri, meaning 'to do', or 'action', and yoga, which translates into 'union'. Thus Karma Yoga literally translates to the path of union through action. With participation from our community of staff, teachers and our students, it is our way of giving something back and practicing Ahimsa - compassion for all living things.
Since opening in 2009 we have hosted benefits in support of Earthquake Victims in Haiti, the World Wildlife Fund, the Champaign County and Piatt County Humane Societies, and the Flatlander Fund. Our community yoga classes allow people who would not have the opportunity the chance to participate in yoga classes. We consider ourselves very fortunate to be part of such a generous and caring community and we are currently planning more ways to give back.
